Janice Knight
I have been a member of the SBBC since 1996 when I
was the first winner of the Make It Happen Award. The award
helped me to gain a Diploma in Management and gave me the
confidence to progress my career, firstly with J Sainsbury
where I became the Site Services Manager for Homebase
Distribution Centre and then as a Project Manager looking at
Business Development Projects. I left Sainsburys in 1999 and
set up a Distribution Operation for The Natural World. I then
moved on to a Housing Regeneration Project in North London.
From there I went on to work for Guinness Housing Trust as an
interim HR Manager. I also started running personal development
courses at the University of Bath in Swindon. In 2003 I joined
Tibbett & Britten as an HR Manager at the Iceland site in
Swindon. I have stayed in that role through two take-overs and
now work for DHL and am currently involved in designing
Leadership Development Training Modules for the company. From
October 2004 – to April 2007 I also worked as a Tutor running
the Women Into Enterprise courses at the University of Bath. I
am a qualified Coach and Mentor and am passionate about helping
people to unlock their true potential. I am indebted to a
number of Business Coaches and Mentors who saw my potential and
helped me to further my own career.
Nanette Young
I have been a member of
SBBC since 1995 and I now enjoy the role as a past
chairwoman. As a member of the group I have made some
excellent business connections and many good friends.
Since 1996 I have been an independent management consultant and
the owner director of Auld Scott & Company -www.auldscott.co.uk-. Auld
Scott & Company provide objective business and management
expertise to make organisations “healthier, wealthier and

Maureen Inwards
I have worked in Human
Resources (Personnel for those of you old enough to
remember) for the last 22 years. I am presently European
Human Resources Director (PP&M) for Intergraph (UK)
Limited where I have been employed for the last 16 years.
Intergraph, a leading global provider of spatial
information management (SIM) software, is an exciting
Company to work and I have been involved in many change
management projects over the years. I joined the SBBC in
April 1997 and have been a past Committee member taking on
Treasury, Membership, Vice Chair and Chair. I currently
manage the Make in Happen Award process, our annual award
to women in business. The MIHA is an exciting time for the
Club and we take pride in our ability to help business
women in the Swindon area to progress their careers.
Claire Tubb - Garden care and
design
I have been a member of the
Swindon Businesswomen’s Breakfast Club since I was lucky
to win a Make it Happen Award in 2005. The award helped me
to partially fund my City and Guilds Garden Design course
to build on my successful garden maintenance business.
Before I had my children, I worked in the Financial Services
Industry, which was good, but I was looking for something to
connect me more with nature and the country and bring a greater
quality to life. I have always been a keen gardener so after
having the boys I decided to follow my passion and build this
into my career.
I have been a professional gardener since October 2004 after
having completed a 2 year City and Guilds Gardening certificate
and a years “hands on” practical gardening course through the
Women’s Farm and Garden Association at the Sheepdrove Organic
Farm, Conference Centre and Garden, run by Peter and Juliet
Kindersley in Lambourn. Whilst on my years placement I obtained
valuable experience in gardening, estate management, reed bed
systems, sculptural willow weaving, hedge laying, and obtaining
my Cross cutting and Chainsaw certificates.
I like to work with clients closely in their gardens and
find that the shared interest we have with the plants and
gardens makes for a rewarding experience for both parties. I
have great satisfaction in helping people achieve their desired
results and many clients have become firm friends. I have been
very lucky to have all of my maintenance work promoted by word
of mouth.
I have been fortunate to be part of the Prospect Hospice
Garden of Celebration design team where we designed a garden
for the local hospice after having shown it at the Malvern
Spring Show in 2006 where we obtained a RHS Silver medal. The
garden is now in place at the Prospect Hospice in Wroughton,
Swindon.
I have also personally achieved 2 RHS Bronze medals at the
Malvern 2006 and 2007 Spring Shows for my Borders, Spiralling
High – which was featured on the BBC Gardeners World programme,
and Glimpses of Gaudi. If you would like to contact me
concerning my garden services, my contact numbers are telephone
01793 488771 or 07709 652115.
I am proud to be a member of the Swindon Businesswomen’s
Breakfast Club and have received beneficial support through the
networking, mentoring and friendship of the Club.
CLAIRE TUBB – Success at the Flora London Marathon
2009
I successfully completed the
Flora London Marathon – my first one – in 4 hours, 55 minutes –
managing to run the whole way (apart from a toilet break and a
few pictures on route!) despite having dislocated my shoulder
the previous weekend. The weather was great for spectators –
just a bit too warm for us runners as it reached about 20
degrees centigrade by about 3.00 pm. The atmosphere and support
on route was really brilliant – especially along the embankment
– the last 3 or 4 miles seemed to fly by! I still cannot
believe that I managed to complete it as it has been a dream
for several years – It took 5 years of trying to get in to
secure a place.
I was running to raise funds for
two charities, which are close to my heart having had personal
dealings with both of these wonderful organisations. Namely
Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, where my son
Ben is being treated as an outpatient and our local Thamesdown
Hydrotherapy pool where Ben was able to attend physiotherapy
sessions for a couple of years that helped him to achieve the
good range of movement which he currently enjoys.
I hope to raise around £500 for
GOSH and about £200 or so for our local charity. I would like
to thank everyone who has very kindly sponsored me for this
event.

Business: Insurance Broking
I moved to Swindon 5 years ago to take on my
role within the Company and became a director of the company
2 years ago. I visit clients and deal with their
requirements from an office in Old Town, Swindon.
I joined SBBC following an invitation by
another member to the breakfast and have made friends,
gained knowledge and listened to some interesting speakers
at the breakfasts.
Brunsdon Westinsure Ltd has roots in Swindon
dating back to 1957 when the original business was formed.
Since then we have grown to be one of the largest provincial
independent Insurance Brokerages in Wiltshire and the
surrounding Counties.
We have during this time been supplying a local
insurance broking service, maintaining a client focus in a
forward thinking and flexible manner.
Our aim is to maintain professionalism and
ensure that clients cover is always arranged on the correct
basis, rather than looking purely at cost cutting.
We are here to act for our clients and take the
pressure from them in all matters of insurance, leaving them
to concentrate on running their business.
Being part of the Westinsure
Group, we maintain our identity whilst benefiting from group
buying power and resources, essential to the efficient
operation of insurance broking, especially in the light of
current market and legislation issues.
Clients range from a 1 man band needing to
protect his business to companies with a turnover of up to
£10m in a wide range of industries.
